Actress Issa Rae made a bold statement on the red carpet of The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) annual fashion awards held on Monday night. Rae wore a belt which had the n-word inscribed on it. The inscription; “Every Nigga Is a Star”, was written on the belt of the blue jumpsuit Rae wore. The dress was made by politically-minded designer Kerby Jean-Raymond for the label Pyer Moss. 
 Rae hosted the star-studded dinner event held at the Brooklyn Museum, which saw stars such as Cate Blanchett, Lupita Nyong’o, Trevor Noah, Michael Kors, Donatella Versace, Gigi Hadid and more walking the red carpet. For her bold statement, Rae joked; “I’m as fashionable as Kanye West is black. Only when it’s convenient.”
